O, such a deed As from the body of contraction plucks The very soul, and sweet religion makes A rhapsody of words. Hamlet, Act III Scene iv
Rhapsody of Words was established by Artistic Director Tom Attenborough to match texts to venues in which the core of each play may be best explored. We believe in the power of the text, that the best theatre comes from the dialogue of a play; starting at its core and working our way out. We are interested in the way that space informs a text – we want where we perform our shows to influence how an audience experiences a play, placing texts in a new context and thus a new light. We believe in telling stories, communicating ideas, and entertaining. We always try to break down existing barriers between the popular and the innovative, pushing ourselves to investigate what makes theatre special and unique.
Previous productions include: The Shape of Things by Neil LaBute at the Gallery Soho (Evening Standard Top 5 Theatre); the world premiere of Arab Spring by Rashid Razaq at Arch 61; Port Authority by Conor McPherson at the Southwark Playhouse (Critic’s Choice, The Times & Time Out); the world premiere of The President and the Pakistani by Rashid Razaq at Waterloo East; the world premiere of Cinderella & The Beanstalk at Theatre503 (Critic’s Choice, Time Out); the West End transfer of The Wasp by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm in association with Tim Johanson, Mark Cartwright and Hampstead Theatre.
